Premier League
Well, that was certainly a game of football. Apparently.
Not one for the Premier League purists. More one for anyone who’s ever watched a microwave count down and thought, “This could do with a bit less excitement.”
Two teams desperately short of a spark. Twenty-six shots between them, yet neither managed an xG that suggested the scoreboard operator needed to put his brew down.
You found yourself craving a Summerville cut inside. A Rutter turn where even he seemed surprised he’d come away with the ball. Or Pablo deciding he’d had enough of everyone’s nonsense and unleashing a thunder-bastard.
Instead, we had Aaronson and Wilson.
Wilson gets some sympathy. Between the formation and injuries elsewhere, we’re hardly setting things up to suit his strengths.
Aaronson, though? Thank you for your services, but I think we’ve reached the “it’s probably best for both of us” stage. Plenty of running. Unfortunately, this remains a sport where you occasionally need to do something with the ball.
Both keepers came out on top. Sunderland fans must be sick of the sight of Trafford by now. Two penalties couldn’t beat him when he was at Burnley; another afternoon having a go didn’t get them much further.
A point away from home is a point away from home. Sensible. Respectable. About as memorable as a hotel corridor.
One to forget, then. Take the clean sheet, get back on the bus and hope someone remembers to pack a bit of creativity for the next one.
We move on. Another point in the bag as we continue to draw our way into Europe.
MOT.
